Isobella R. Success Story

Hi, I am Isobella, and I am a repeat offender! I first came to Fluid Physio back in 2022 during my freshman winter track season due to the pain I was having in my right hip, which was diagnosed as bursitis and treated by Dr. Laura. With all of the help from Fluid Physio I ended up breaking the indoor freshman record for shotput and only being an inch away from the outdoor one. Of course, right before I was done with PT, I injured my wrist and a x-ray showed it was just sprained. I went back to PT and continued working on my wrist for another few months and was able to finish PT. About halfway through my indoor season sophomore year, the wrist pain was back and worse than ever. I went back to Fluid Physio where Dr. Gianna advised me there was something going on and to request an MRI, even if they said it wasn’t needed, to insist. She was right and the MRI showed a triangular fibrocartilage complex, or TFCC, tear. The doctor said that it had most likely happened back in June of 2022 when I first hurt my wrist and it just wasn’t caught because the doctor didn't have an MRI done, but Dr. Gianna knew! I was put in a cast for 2 weeks and then a brace, which was when I could start working with Fluid Physio again on regaining my strength and getting back to where I was before all of this happened. With Dr. Gianna's help I was able to do just that, and I was even able to begin the spring season on time. Again, as things seemed to be going well and I was about done with PT, I hurt my shoulder throwing javelin. We determined I had a nerve traction injury because of the way my arm moves when I throw javelin, so I continued working with Dr. Gianna and eventually got through it. Fast forward another year to my outdoor junior year season, I was having a lot of pain in my shoulder so I talked with the athletic trainer at my school, but nothing seemed to help. During summer break, I went back to Fluid Physio and saw Dr. Easton who worked on relieving the pain I was having and taught me how to manage it when things got bad. With his help I was able to get rid of the pain for the most part and work on ways to make sure the pain stayed away. A few days before I was supposed to finish PT again, I hyperextended my left knee and Dr. Easton advised me to get an MRI done. The MRI showed that I had sprained my ACL, bruised my Hofa’s pad and bruised a few bones. While my field hockey season did have to come to an end, my goal was to be able to start my track season on time, and I did. I was able to regain the strength needed in my knee to start the season on time, all while keeping strength in my upper body while on crutches and hobbling around unevenly. I am now better than ever! In shotput, I currently rank within the top 25 throwers in NJ, and currently number 5 all-time girls shotput in my school's history. I also sit at number 1 in the state of NJ for weight throw this year and have committed to Brandeis University to throw next year!

I couldn’t have done any of this without all of the help and support that I received here at Fluid Physio, and I am so glad that this is where my mom decided to bring me 3 years ago when I started having pain in my hip.
