Frequently Asked Questions
Most people reach for an ice pack and rest after an injury. They are usually busy with work or family and will ignore pain long enough to finally see their primary care physician or perhaps an orthopedic specialist hoping to get relief. If the injury is not in need of surgery, they will get medication for pain or spasms, and if they get lucky a referral to Physical Therapy. While those medications may help initially, they are treating the symptoms and not the actual cause of the pain or spasm.
Most Physical Therapy has an emphasis on modalities (electrical stimulation, ultrasound, heat/cold packs, etc) and exercises. Both of these can be great to help with healing and inflammation, improve ROM, and increase strength. The focus now is on the cause of the pain and dysfunction, however, the body must still heal itself and this can take some time.
Our approach relies on looking at the whole body and not just the site of pain. We prioritize our hands-on techniques that can mobilize joints, fascia, and nerves to stimulate normal positions and treat the dysfunctions found. This is followed by specific guided activities that engage the regions of the body that were treated in order to normalize and encourage proper movement. You will be given a few home exercises based on the activities done during the session in order to maintain the improved positions achieved during treatment.
After the first visit, you will leave our extended therapy session with immediate improvement in your pain and motion, a full understanding of what caused or prolonged your injury, and the tools to continue managing your own pain without medication.
At Fluid Physio, we also utilize the current best evidence in treatments to make decisions about patient care. This adds value to our approach making our treatments more efficient and faster than most conventional options available.

No. You can call us to make an appointment right away. New Jersey is a state that permits “Direct Access”. This means that you do not need to see your physician or specialist to begin treatment for physical therapy. Our therapist will determine your physical therapy diagnosis after a thorough evaluation. We will relay this information to your physician or health provider as needed to coordinate your treatment so that you can heal faster and return to the activities you love.
Not always. While every patient and case is different, in general, you will be back to your activity much sooner than you expect in a more traditional PT clinic or Chiropractor. Depending on your situation, we will try to work with you to see how you may be able to modify your activity to heal as quickly as possible while minimizing time away from the full activity you love.
In most traditional Physical Therapy, the norm is 2-3 treatments per week for 1-2 months! Depending on your pain and injury, the average patient will see our manual physical therapists for a total of 5 to 6 treatments. If your pain has been around for a long time this may take longer to recover than more recent or acute injuries.
Fluid Physio has decided to be an out-of-network provider because directly taking insurance does not support our treatment philosophy. Therapists in clinics that bill insurance directly often have to see 2 or usually more patients per hour. They have to do this because insurance companies will reimburse clinics only about half of what they actually bill. As a result, insurances indirectly dictate or influence the treatment that patients get, and this is not acceptable at Fluid Physio.
We believe in hand-on treatment and giving patients the tools to treat themselves, therefore, there are few to no modalities used and patients are taught to perform exercises at home.
We will provide you with the necessary documentation to receive the maximum reimbursement available from your personal health insurance if you are planning to submit for reimbursement or payment toward your deductible. Prior to your first visit to Fluid Physio, you should call your insurance company. Ask about reimbursement for out-of-network physical therapy expenses and make sure there are no other requirements like pre-authorization before you get started.
With busy work and family lives, time is the most valuable resource. Fewer visits to the clinic and a faster time to rid you of pain certainly make Fluid Physio a great deal.
